This past Sunday my nephew Lucas got baptized and became an official member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In our church children who reach the age of accountability- 8 years old- have the opportunity to follow the example of Jesus Christ by being baptized and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost.
On their baptism day they make a covenant with God to take upon themselves the name of Jesus Christ, remember Him always, and keep His commandments until the end.
"The person who is called of God and has authority from Jesus Christ to baptize, shall go down into the water with the person who has presented himself or herself for baptism, and shall say, calling him or her by name: Having been commissioned of Jesus Christ, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
Then shall he immerse him or her in the water, and come forth again out of the water."
Lucas was baptized by his father on October 22nd, 2017 at 4pm in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
I confess I cried A LOT the day before his baptism because we weren't able to attend it. But my heart was filled with gratitude for his decision to follow our Savior's example and get baptized. I am proud of him in every way.
Because we couldn't be there in person, we made a special video for him.
**Photos of his baptism coming soon!
