General Conference Weekend

This past weekend we had our semi-annual General Conference. For us members of the church it is a time where we have the opportunity to hear from the servants of the Lord, be instructed and uplifted. I love General Conference. It brings a sweet spirit to our home.

This year in order to make General Conference more interesting for the girls I prepared a Conference Kit to each of them with their favorite treats and a Conference activity pack for them to color. It was the best idea! They absolutely loved it! Plus, it helped them to be quiet, entertained and focused during the sessions.

Last Conference in April it was announced a few changes the way we used to do Home and Visiting Teaching. It was also announced a restructure of Melchizedek Priesthood Quorum, and it was introduced to us the new Ministering- "a new and holier approach for caring for others".

This General Conference was also full of changes and surprises. Our church meeting is being shortened to two hours instead of our regular three hour meeting. Our classes will alternate each week as follow: Sunday school will be held on the first and third weeks of each month. Relief Society, Elders Quorum, Young Men and Young Women on the second and fourth weeks. The fifth weeks will be under the direction of the bishop. Primary will be divided each week between singing time and classes. This changes are to fulfill the new home-centered church supported curriculum.

Also during this General Conference the Mormon Tabernacle Choir was renamed to Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, and the construction of twelve new Temples were announced: Mendoza-Argentina, Yuba City-California, Phnom Penh-Cambodia, Praia-Cape Verde, Yig-Guam, Puebla-Mexico, Auckland-New Zealand, Lagos-Nigeria, Davao-Philippines, San Juan-Puerto Rico, Washington County-Utah, and Salvador-Brazil!!!!! I am so happy! That is where my father is from.

Besides all these changes we had wonderful messages of love and hope. My questions once more were answered and my heart is in peace. Soon I'll be posting about my favorite talks. It was a truly beautiful Conference in every way, and I feel happy and grateful for being able to participate in it. I am proud to say my girls (maybe for the first time) learned a lot of things from it too.

On Sunday we closed our General Conference weekend with our Ice Cream Sundae
