Hand, foot and mouth disease

Remember Bianca was feeling under the weather with fever and sore throat about a week ago? Her lab results came back negative for strep throat, and it turns out she had hand, foot, and mouth disease.

I only found out yesterday when Kelly called me saying all the kids that were at the Thanksgiving feast had the same symptoms as Bianca (fever, sore throat, and red bumps).

I am positive Bianca got from baby Bella last time we went to Mindy. She had the same symptoms and at that time Mindy and I thought the bumps on her hands and mouth were fever reaction.

Bianca’s pediatrician said there are lots of cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease going around this season, and it is highly contagious, so be aware! It really seems like a fever/allergic reaction, but none of allergy meds will work, because we gave it to Bibi and it didn’t work at all.

Because it’s a virus there is no treatment for that (you can use ibuprofen to ease the discomfort). But mainly we need to keep our child away from other kids, and wait for the symptoms to go away.

Bianca’s bumps have popped pus and now they are drying up. It usually takes around six days to get better. Today completes seven days since Bianca got it, so I guess we should be fine now.
